LAID LOW FOR US.

She laid Him LOW in a manger,
Young Mary His mother dear.
While shepherds gathered around Him
And animals hovered near.
Above the star shone brightly
And the Angels sang on high.
The cloak of night fell around them
And the breeze gave a gentle sigh.

She raised Him up to manhood,
Surrounded Him with Love.
But His path of Life was eternal
And destined from above.
He was Lord and King, this Jesus.
Yet He lived on earth to show
The great love of God His Father
To all creatures here below.
He showed His love to disciples
To give to those they would meet.
They learned from Him as He knelt LOW
Before them and washed their feet.

They hung Him high on a scaffold,
This man who had brought them Good News.
They placed there a mocking placard,
"Hail, King of the Jews!"
He looked down, then prayed to His Father
"Forgive them" He quietly said.
They'd not understood the message.
For them He had suffered and bled.

They laid Him LOW in a graveyard,
And silently sealed the tomb.
But the bonds of Earth could not hold Him.
He broke forth as a child from the womb.
He arose on high to His Father,
To the place from whence He came.
He had overcome the suffering
Of death, and the cruel shame.

His Spirit is with us for ever,
Wherever we may go.
He endures our every suffering
Whenever we're feeling LOW.
He understands our weakness.
Our love He will always share.
God gave us the gift of His son,
He knows because He's been there.

She laid Him LOW in a manger.
They laid Him LOW in the grave.
He came DOWN to earth from Heaven,
Brought LOW our souls to save.

On 1st March there was an Evening of Praise with ten songs chosen by ten members of the church. Each person gave their personal reasons why the song they had chosen was special to them. Some were very moving reasons.
